ASAM encourages you to use your voice, expertise, and knowledge to increase addiction prevention, treatment, remission, and recovery through volunteer opportunities. Here you will find opportunities to serve on ASAM’s councils, committees, subcommittees as well as task force groups. Terms of service can be short or long-term depending on the charge of the group.

Subcommittees, Writing Committees, and Task Forces may be comprised of members and non-members.

ASAM Weekly Editor in Chief Position Open

ASAM Weekly, with circulation of 70,000 readers, is conducting a search for a new Editor in Chief (EIC). The EIC will serve a 1-year term from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027, with the option to renew for additional years. The EIC directs 3-5 Co-Editors with a time commitment of 4-6 hours per week. Benefits and compensation offered.

ASAM Criminal Justice Case Writers - Application Open

ASAM is looking for volunteers to write mock clinical cases for patients in jail, prison, and re-entering the community. Contributors will be mentioned in The ASAM Criteria Fourth Edition, Volume 3: Correctional Settings and Community Reentry.

ASAM Criteria Task Group on Interoperable Data Standards - Application Open

ASAM is seeking experts to serve on the ASAM Criteria Task Group on Interoperable Data Standards. This group will support ASAM’s efforts to explore, define, and recommend approaches for integrating interoperable data standards into ASAM tools and resources related to substance use disorder assessment and treatment planning.
